I really enjoyed the authors way of telling a story. I liked his down to earth outlook on flyfishing. He reminds me of myself, unpretentious and simple. In my mind, exactly what this world need more of.

Great Read & Perfect Gift. Highly Recommended!!

This book was given to me as a gift. I am not a fly fisher by any means, but I truly enjoyed the read. The book is a series of well written essays – all of which touched me. Some made me laugh, while others brought a tear to my eye.

This book makes a perfect gift, and I will be purchasing my own copies to give away.

Garrett stopped by at a supermarket to pick up a few things and then to head home to his family. Little did he know that he would be walking into the supermarket of horrors. Not only is there freshly wrapped human limbs in the freezer it seems that escape isn't an option. Take a horror filled ride down the isles of Grueber's, and see what people will do in order to survive.

I picked this book up thinking that it would be a nice read. I have found that most horror books don't really scare me or bother me at all. This book scared me bad, taking something as ordinary as a food store and making me never want to step foot into one ever again. Michael Bray has a gift for story telling, putting you inside the heads of a few different people and making you care about what is going to happen to them. Making you hope that they make it out of this alive. When you care about the characters in a book it makes it all the better.

More then once I asked myself how I would have reacted if placed into a situation like that, and honestly I couldn't tell you. Half the time I would think that I would hold strong and try to escape, and the other half I would think that I would lose it and roam the isles with the rest of them. When a story makes you think like that you know it was good.

The only thing I didn't like is that it reminded me a little of the movie The Mist, I have never read Stephen Kings book so I can't compare it to that, but the feeling of the movie was close to this story, only with different monsters. Other then that this book creeped me out hard core.

Would I recommend it? Oh yeah I would, you never really want to watch a scary movie by yourself, same goes with a book. You need to spread that fear out to others so you can cope. Now if only I could convince myself that my local food stores are save to go into.

I was eager to read this and snapped it up as soon as it was released. I was immersed from the moment that I started reading and couldn't bear to leave this book alone. Not being familiar with Michael Bray's work, I was amazed that I hadn't come across this talent before. His style reminds of a cross between Bentley Little and Edward Lee. I am surprised that he doesn't have a massive list of books because he certainly doesn't write like a novice.

The story itself was dark and shocking in parts. It was made even more disturbing by the mundaneness of the setting, a supermarket. Every element of a brilliant horror story was covered in this novel, the deaths were gruesome and graphically described, an abundance of heart-stopping moments and finishing off with a 'didn't see that coming' revelation.

My only criticism (and it is only a small one) was that I noticed quite a few mistakes within the story, just a few commas and words missing here and there. This did not in any way detract from the story, and with such a fantastic story, it is easy to forgive little things like this.

In conclusion, Michael Bray, you are a horror genius. I am going to have to purchase Bray's collection of short stories and read them very slowly. I will be waiting eagerly for the novel planned for Spring 2013.

Just read this in a single day and have to say this is one of the best horror stories I have read in ages! It is absolutely grisly, gruesome and nasty ~ in other words, right up my street!

A group of shoppers find themselves trapped in a new supermarket with no hope of escape. On the shelves are disembodied feet (seasoned ready for cooking), pickled eyes and fresh tongue kebabs - all mixed in amongst the usual produce. At first some of them think it is all some kind of sick, practical joke but when some of them try to leave, they quickly learn there is only one way they are getting out of this store...and it's not through the front doors!

This is an awesome, awesome, awesome read and one hell of a ride! It is quite simply one of the best short horror novels that I have read in ages! It feels heavily influenced by Richard Laymon in places and is exceptionally nasty right through to the end. The climax alone will leave you gasping, let alone the rest of the novel! It really is a roller coaster ride from start to finish!

This is the first piece of fiction I have read by author, Michael Bray but you can be certain, it won't be the last! I was left speechless, reeling and almost sickened at times by the sheer horror and brutality depicted within but you know what? Horror simply doesn't get much better than this!

This is how much the book influenced me: mid-reading, I popped into my local Tesco Express to pick up a couple of things. Walking around the shelves, I found myself half-consciously looking around for disembodied limbs and decapitated heads - it wasn't till I got to the till that I realised what I had been doing! This is the sign of a good author, that he can so engross you in his writing that you find yourself actually living what you have been reading in your head! Few writers have this ability and so for M.Bray to achieve this shows just how good a writer he really is!

About the Author
Thomas Hauser is the author of many books. His first work, Missing, was made into an Academy Award–winning film. He later authored Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times, the definitive biography of the most famous fighter ever. In 2004, the Boxing Writers Association of America honored Hauser with the Nat Fleischer Award for Career Excellence in Boxing Journalism.

Really enjoyed this book

Really enjoyed this book. I look forward to this book every year. Hauser is without a doubt the best boxing writer around. My only disappointment is that is was took quick of a read. I wish he had published more of his articles. I wish the book was 300-350 pages in total. But all in all a very enjoyable read as always.

If you enjoy moody stories of good and evil, this is a good one for you.

Depressed and angry at himself for a messy divorce, Jan van Hunks is drinking himself into oblivion.  The only problem is that it was alcohol that caused the problem in the first place.  Desperate to get out of his own head and away from his familiar apartment, Jan takes a walk to an unknown part of town.  He discovers a bar called the Black Goat and that’s when the battle with the Devil begins.

This is a simple tale of redemption and forgiveness, of finding the bottom and deciding to stay there or make the hard trip back to life.  Jan is forced to face his guilt and make that decision all while facing an adversary who would love for him to fail and gives him every chance.

We are in Jan’s mind throughout this short story, the memories coming and going as they would in our own heads.  The listener immediately empathizes with Jan.  He isn’t a bad person, he just can’t break through his self-doubt and see his own potential.  It is universally human and something we have all faced, perhaps all too often.  The difference for Jan is that he gets warned and gets a chance to choose consciously, forward or back.

The story is performed by Bart Fouche.  He has a beautiful deep voice and reads the story as the author intended, moody and dark.  His character voices are easily differentiated and fit the story beautifully.  An excellent performance that matched the story perfectly.

If you enjoy moody stories of good and evil, this is a good one for you.  The idea of fighting, or outsmarting the Devil is not new, of course, just a different approach.  The Black Goat is all about mood, dark and foreboding.  Sometimes short stories are just the thing.  This one is well worth a listen.

I announce up front that I looked at this when it was a bit rougher, but I loved the story, characters and setting. It's my Cape Town, seen through the distortion of alcohol and the paranormal. I also loved the references to a more traditional local story.

So I've let my mind absorb this book and yes I'm still reeling from it.

This is the second book in this series and it takes you back to how it all started. From the beginning you get to see how the Sebastian handled the changes he was soon to face. How he started his family and what he went through to keep his family safe. I like how this book shows you what it was like to transform and how he was unsure at first what happens. It shows you how Sebastian adjusts to life as a Lycan. It shows his struggles, the paths he and another choose, if friendships remain and the differences of life that are throw at him.

From beginning to end this book kept me intrigued. S.K. Ballinger is a genius and this book is amazing.

One thing this book taught me, you can't trust everyone that you meet!

SK. Nope not that one. He has his own right in horror. S.K. Ballinger has created a whole new world focused around the lore of Lycans. Reading this I was amazed at the attention to thought the author has put into this. Well written and driven to exceed expectations it has defined itself as a series that will gain momentum with each installment. Great story. I believe you have to get your own copy before you can really understand what these reviews mean. To take a man, and have him go through all the struggles is heart breaking. As you keep reading, it's like the story actually unfolds before your eyes, and makes you want more.
