About the Author
Mors Kochanski is known throughout North America for his extensive work in outdoor education, survival and wilderness living. His enthusiasm for wilderness recreation, his extensive knowledge of the field, and his desire to learn everything there is to know about the wilderness has made him one of the foremost authorities on wilderness skills. Mors Kochanski has been an outdoor educator and survival instructor for over 40 years, twenty three of which as a sessional professor for the University of Alberta; a few months of which were at the Canadian Department of National Defense Survival School at Jarvis Lake, Alberta. For many years Mors instructed courses at the Blue Lake Centre run by the Alberta Department of Culture Youth and Recreation, and finally 17 years for the School District 59, at Dawson Creek, British Columbia to the benefit of thousands of elementary school children. All the while, this tireless scholar did copious research, freelanced as an instructor, and wrote numerous magazine articles for Alberta Wilderness Arts and Recreation Magazine, various popular aid-memoir booklets and the instant classic “Northern Bushcraft” (now known as Bushcraft). This is just a handful of Mors’ outdoor education accomplishments to preface his new book that is published by Karamat Wilderness Ways. Today, if a course or instructor has any solid foundation in modern survival skills or Bushcraft, the odds are that they are likely based on a teaching, a skill or idea that Mors had some input in developing – whether they know it or not.

Good information

Mors Kochanski is one of the understated "dirt teachers" of this era. Since he specializes primarily in the further Northern regions, and COLD climate survival he has not received the widespread reputation of many others more diverse instructions. Still his life experience in the most inhospitable climes of the frozen North is the best available. His blending of modern materials with "old wisdom" puts him in a unique place between the die-hard traditionalist and the modern materials ultra-lite obsessed outdoors person. His idea for the "super shelter" combinations these two worlds all with one goal in mind- safest and most enjoyable enjoyment of the wilderness. Good read with Common Sense approach to getting away from modern "civilization".

Must-have book for practicing or teaching bushcraft skills

The book that every woodsman should have written by the Gandalf of Bushcraft. This is comprehensive tome on shelters, bush tools, firemaking and more. The author even goes into research on fasting and what determines when you should live off the land or refrain. A true classic especially for those who teach outdoor skills or long-term wilderness living.

This overview of how to prepare and survive in this book is the best I have ever seen (many years of reading up on how to survive if necessary).

The detail is unique down to the art of how to sharpen and chose knives and tools that will be needed in these situations of survival. (just one of thousands of useful bits of information in this easy read)

This should be required reading for all High school age young men and woman that truly want to be independent in their lives no matter what the circumstances are.

A heartwarming account of a true footballing great and a wonderful man.
The author provides a long overdue tale of Sean Fallon, a genius who shunned the limelight in pursuit of glory for his beloved Celtic.
As player, coach, scout and manager, Fallon's magnificent achievements, which included Britain's first European Cup, are overshadowed by his warmth, loyalty and dedication.
Stephen Sullivan expertly allows the reader to not only get to know Sean Fallon but feel like they they were part of his family.
If you are looking for the regular football biography written by a tabloid journalist then keep searching. This is a magnificently well written account, befitting of The Iron Man himself.

The price is rediculous

I recently bought this book thinking I would possibly learn something only to find out that I was wrong.This book is riddled with errors, one of them being that there was, the same information on one page and then if you flip the page you will see the exact same thing. and yes I know you, the author warned the reader about this in the beggining of the book and how if you see this then keep reading, but thats not a excuse for the authors poor attempt at editing this. if your interested in crayfishing I suggest you not buy this book.

good stuff

Lots of good recipes in here. I was getting annoyed in the beginning as 90% of the recipes have nothing to do with venison, or have any in them. They are pretty good recipes for some good simple food (the best kind). About midway you hit all the venison recipes. I can't wait to try some of them. With all the frozen venison I have (and hope to get more of this season) the additional recipes are a welcome addition.

Delicious way to cook venison and what to serve with it.

I have used this book many times. I thought it was going to be a book of venison recipes only; but to my delight, it also had side dishes. It really help me know good ways to use venison and gives me sides and other dishes to put on the table. It is nice not to have to go through many books. The ones I have tried are delicious and I would definitely recommend this book. The favorite with my family was the Venison Sausage Balls (I used medium hot deer sausage instead of hot). We also like all of the appetizers using venison. I am cooking my way through this book, so I will tell you about the main courses soon. Cooking has been hard during the Holidays so I mostly made my old favorites.

Lovely variety of inviting soup recipes

The recipes look wonderful. The instructions are clear and the variety is amazing. I plan on making all 25 of the recipes. My 4 star rating is because there are inconsistencies in units of measuring within some of the recipes that will require conversations before being made. One recipe calls for a 400g can of diced tomatoes. Not a typical unit in the US. A conversation chart would be really helpful. Other than that it is a great book. Will try to return and comment on the recipes themselves once I have made them. Disclosure: received this book at a discount in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sweet and Sour Effort

I'm a lover of cooking, reading, and comfort foods. So I was pretty eager to dive into this ebook and search for inspiration to combat the now chilly weather. I could tell that it had been written and published by an individual and not a publisher. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I love that Amazon makes it possible for writers to get their foot in the door independently. I feel that it was a good effort, and I feel that this ebook was written with love for the subject matter, and with her family in mind. It was not perfect, but it gets the job done.

First things first, I like the cover art. I'm far from an artist or art critic, but it's simple enough to be visually inviting, with enough warm color to give the viewer a sense of comfort that the book's content is hoping to also bring the reader.

I skimmed over the recipes themselves, stopping to read the ones I'm more interested in trying, but mostly getting a sense and forming an opinion of the general layout. The recipes are formatted the way most are. It is straightforward, easy to read. Some photos of the dishes would have been nice, even a photo for one of every five recipes offered. I did notice one inconsistency while reading the French Onion Soup recipe. The directions ask the reader to stir in the wine at a certain point, but there is no mention of wine in the ingredients list. I was very eager to try this recipe, but I have no idea what type of wine to use, or in what quantity. If the author happens to see this review and is able to leave a comment, I'd love to know what I need to try the recipe!

Regarding the Introduction and Thank You and Goodbye sections at the beginning and end of the book, I feel these could have been better written. I only found one outright error, which was a missing period at the end of the third paragraph of the Thank You and Goodbye section. Otherwise, there were redundancies, such as the word "only" being used twice in the very first sentence of the book. I understand that the writer's intention was to write this in her own voice, with a sense of informality, as though the reader were a relative or a guest in her home. But the end result was something that, quite honestly, was a bit of a chore to read. With a little more practice, I think she could find her voice as a writer, and manage to create something that is well written and still feels personal. Perhaps she could spend a little time reading cook books by writers that have been doing so professionally for some time. I also think that in her future works, she should seek out an experienced proof reader before finalizing her work--someone who will give her an unbiased opinion.

All in all, I feel the writer accomplishes what I assume are her main goals. I do think her recipes are appealing and I intend to try at least a couple of them. Had I purchased this ebook at its original listed price of $2.99, I would have been disappointed by both the quality of the writing and the missing information in the recipe. However, I feel the writer has potential and I hope she continues growing as an author.

I got this book on sale! I was so glad I did. One thing I will definitely cook year round is soup. The cold weather us coming so great soup ideas are a plus! I cooked the baked potato soup and my family enjoyed it! Even if it's not cold, I will still enjoy a bowl of soup. Can't wait to try more recipes.

My name is Anthony Procopis - author of The Truth About Putting book and owner/creator of the website with the same name. I was born in Sydney, Australia in 1976 and started playing golf at age 10 (I also played a lot of cricket and soccer growing up). I did a golf pro trainee-ship in the late 90's and have continued my exploration into golf-improvement ever since. Nowadays, I share my findings with my readers/website subscribers via books, emails and video. For the best results for myself and my readers/students, I try to blend technical competency with natural, feel-based golf. I enjoy helping and hearing from readers (send me an email if you have any questions). The Right Wavelength.

Been following Anthony,s teachings for sometime now.I must admit it took quite a while for me to get on his wavelength but once I did this book and his total system have been a huge help in many parts of my game and particularly shorter putts.I could never have imagined the HUGE part that visualisation can play in the golf swing but I have nowPROOVED this to myself so would encourage everyone to stick with his teachings if at first they do not feel they make much sense and see what can happen when you put them into practice.

I play full time Senior Amateur golf, living in St Andrews Scotland. I have found that the best way to improve in any aspect of the game is to build small stepping stones. This book and it's simple effective advice has helped me to improve my putting, therefore, to anyone (even accomplished wielders of the short stick) I would thoroughly recommend the message that Anthony puts forward.

Andrew Wolfenson is an attorney in New Jersey whose practice focuses primarily on divorce/family matters, bankruptcy, and litigation. Fulfilling his childhood aspirations of becoming a sportswriter, Wolfenson also penned a successful blog on the now-closed site "Open Salon" for six years, the majority of his posts focusing on sports-related issues. This latest outing is his second collection of sports-related blogs, and is the follow-up to 2013's "Bloggin' Baseball (from the bench)", also available for purchase on amazon. He is also the author of three novels - "In His Own Defense," "Deadly Fantasy: A Baseball Story," and "In His Ex-Wife's Defense." All of these novels are also available on amazon or for Kindle. In his spare time, the author serves as Co-Chair of the Franklin & Marshall College Alumni Association's New Jersey chapter, and also acts as Commissioner and participates in a Fantasy Baseball league. He lives in New Jersey with his wife of 26 years, his three daughters, and two dogs.

If you are a fan of the show, this is a must have book. Mr. Joe takes the reader on a swamp tour of his life from childhood to Hollywood. He has a few recipes in the book as well. I have tried them all and love it. Well written book from a great man. I wish Joe was on the show more, but, who am I?

If you love Louisiana, and the mash lands, this is the book for you. It has some photos as well of Mr. Joe fishing, and gator hunting as well.

Fascinating account of the attempts and failures to climb K2 and survive

The author gives a fascinating account of the attempts to climb K2. The book is divided as follows: (Prologue) the mountain with no name; (1) the beast and the prince; (2) the Harvard boys; (3) a climbing party; (4) high ambition; (5) the fall out; (6) unfinished business; (7) teamwork; (8) man down; (9) the old road; (10) the flowers of Italy; (11) the spoils of victory; (12) the base lie?; (Epilogue) living up to your name?; (Acknowledgements); (Notes); (Bibliography); and (Images).

Written in 2015, this is an excellent overview of expeditions to K2 from 1901 through recent years. The difficulties of K2 (further north than Everest and thus colder weather) result in many fewer climbing attempts and higher fatality rates than on Everest. The book is very well written and will appeal to climbers and readers of adventure stories (myself). I highly recommend this book.

Lies by Conefrey!! I guess his conscience finally got the better of Lacedelli.

Lies and a pure work of fiction created by Mick Conefrey to sell some books, while pretending to be a factual recount of the 1st successful ascent of K2.

Walter Bonatti was a hero along with his Pakistani sherpa, named Mahdi. These two carried the oxygen tanks to what was supposed to be the final camp IX location, located at about 27,000 feet up K2. However, Campagnoni and Lacedelli had ascended roughly 100 meters above the agreed upon location for that final camp IX knowing that Bonatti and Mahdi would never be able to reach their hidden new location by nightfall. They also hid their new location by moving about 200 feet to the left of the agreed upon final ascent line above e the agreed upon camp IX location to ensure that Bonatti would not be able to locate them. They also repeatedly ignored calls from Bonatti that fateful evening asking them for assistance. They did this to ensure that Bonatti, the strongest climber of them all would not be the one to make the final ascent of K2.

Lacedelli himself admitted in 2004, that he and Campagnoni had intentionally hid their location that evening to prevent Bonatti and Mahdi from locating them. This would guarantee that Bonatti would not be part of the final ascent of K2 the next day. Yet, Conefrey perpetuates the decades of Campagnoni lies to the contrary.

By intentionally hiding themselves, Campagnoni and Lacedelli guaranteed that Bonatti and Mahdi would be "hung out to dry" and trapped without a tent or camp supplies that evening with temperatures dropping below -25 celsius. Mahdi ended up losing all ten of his toes from the extreme frostbite he suffered that evening. Campagnoni then had the audacity after the expedition was complete to tell further lies and claim that Bonatti had abandoned Mahdi and that Bonatti was responsible for Mahdi's frostbite and loss of his toes.

Campagnoni told 50+ years worth of lies that Bonatti had used some of the oxygen intended for he and Lacedelli that evening, and that Campagnoni had "supposedly" run out of oxygen before reaching the K2 summit the next day. Campagnoni claimed that Bonatti was carrying the oxygen tanks to the camp IX location that afternoon, and the oxygen masks as well, which permitted Bonatti to "supposedly" use some of the oxygen himself that evening. A PROVEN lie by Campagnoni!

Mahdi and the 2 other climbers, who assisted Bonatti with bringing the oxygen tanks to the missing camp IX that afternoon have testified that they and Bonatti were only carrying oxygen tanks, and no masks. Campagnoni and Lacedelli already had their masks higher up on the mountain. And now we now have actual photographic evidence uncovered by Robert Marshall of Campagnoni standing on the K2 summit breathing oxygen through his oxygen mask. Yet, Campagnoni previously lied and claimed he ran out of oxygen before reaching the K2 summit. That photo proves Campagnoni lied about running out of oxygen prior to making the K2 summit, and yet Conefrey continues to perpetuate those lies.

The truth is that the two heroes of that ascent along with a host of others were Walter Bonatti and the local Pakistani mountaineer, named Mahdi. They risked their lives to carry those oxygen tanks to the final camp IX, only to be betrayed by the actions of Campagnoni and Lacedelli.

Shameful and criminal on both the part of Campagnoni, and Lacedelli. They were both personally responsible for slandering Bonatti for decades, and for taking all ten of Mahdi's toes from him along with much of his remaining quality of life. At least, Lacedelli finally came clean in 2004 and admitted to the decades of lies that had been told against Bonatti. I guess his conscience finally got the better of him. This is stuff anyone can easily do an internet search on. Campagnoni went to his grave a criminal, a slanderer, and a liar, certainly no hero. And both the Italian and Pakistani governments are also culpable for perpetuating those decades of lies to "maintain their relationships" and create two false heroes in Campagnoni and Lacedelli.

And just as bad, now we have hacks like Mick Conefrey perpetuating the Campagnoni/Lacedelli lies as well.

Amazon, why are you selling this rubbish and not doing your own due diligence to call this writer of fiction and lies named Conefrey out for his lies???

Not just the first effort - but all of them :)

A bit misleading, the book not only covers the first attempt, but covers all of them, fascinating accounts of the attempts to climb K2.
This is a good overview of expeditions to K2 from 1901 through recent years. The difficulties of K2 (further north than Everest and thus colder weather) result in many fewer climbing attempts and higher fatality rates than on Everest. Something very nicely brought out is the retrospective consideration (not done in the early climbing attempts) of the effects of altitude on the climbers. Some weird stuff/actions occurred that none of the climbers would consider at lower altitudes. Until the 50's, many climbers thought that the would "get used to" the oxygen deprivation of higher altitudes, that the longer they were "up there" the better it would be. The exact opposite of what we now know to be true.

Full disclosure: Oliver Eaton (Tony) Cromwell was my grandfather. I grew up in Europe in the 60's spending winters with him in Zermatt, and as a young officer commanding a border camp spent quite a bit of time with him in the 70's and early 80's when he moved to Interlaken before he and Georgia's death in the mid-80's. He willed me his personal notes and book collection.

The part o=n the 1939 climb is an excellent study in leadership or the lack thereof. The strength of the work is its focus on the personalities and the authors do a very nice job, presenting some interesting information re: Weissner, Durrance, Cromwell and the others members as well. After reading this, you would be well served if you read "Last Man on the Mountain".

The author appear to make a real effort to avoid biases. They do a very nice job of helping the reader understand the relative backgrounds of the tream members. In the attempt, four people died, one of which was Wolfe, the other three were Sherpa's, who died heroically trying to bring Wolfe down, for which role they were not trained, equipped or being paid to do. While there is plenty of blame to go around, Wolfe's death needs to be laid at Weissner's feet.

Something touched on but not really explored is that as the author noted, Cromwell - at least in terms of quantity (Weissner was undoubtedly more skilled) - had more experience than anyone except Weissner - there's at least one mountain named after him (Mt. Cromwell) in Canada. Cromwell was also mature (47-the rest were MUCH younger) and well-educated and again, as the author notes, discussed with Weissner his (Cromwell's) concern about prolonged exposure to high altitude for human health and performance - which is why Cromwell made it clear from the very beginning that he would be glad to join the K2 expedition - help lead the effort - and help fund the effort ($1,700 then was like $45,000 today) - but that he was not interested in going any higher than the base camp. Cromwell, with decades of experience, had a better perspective on maintaining health than the younger men - who had the approach that they would simply "gut thru" any discomfort - which is fine for an afternoon's climb but not so practical for weeks on end. Cromwell's personal observations re: prolonged exposure to high altitudes was not widely accepted until much later - and Weissner and the younger member simply paid it no attention.

Cromwell was a seasoned, experienced, mature mountaineer, who found that Weissner`s unwillingness to accept any team input other than money and physical labor (ie. Weissner refused to even appear to consider ANY advice Cromwell tried to give him, be it mountaineering, or the best approaches for leading Americans, and then tried to order him up K2 after promising him that he would ONLY be the base camp commander - health concerns be damned) - put the expedition at risk, with tragic consequences. As the authors note: the American's essentially mentally "checked out" with regard to Weissner - they were perfectly happy as long as he was anywhere but where they were.
